Using Career Agents for Faction Standings

For a year and a half, I did missions almost exclusively for Caldari Navy, without regard to maintaining my other empire standings. As a result, my Gallente standings dropped to a dangerous -4.97. Luckily, this was just enough for me to work with, to repair my standings across all four empire factions. This is the fastest way I’ve found to fix my standings, using only career agents. Each set of five agents takes me an hour or two, counting minor distractions from my wife and baby.

This guide assumes that you understand the basics of overview settings andfitting ships, have basic skills trained, and have a fewspare ISK to save time. Preferably, you traveled to the career agents’ system in a fully-fitted, combat-ready frigate at least. (If you don’t, all this means is your first set of five agents will take a bit longer. Combat and skill training to level 1 may take an extra hour or two.)

There are five career agent types: Exploration, Industry, Business, Military, and Advanced Military. Each faction has three systems each, with a set of 5 agents in each system. In following my guide, you will work for these agents in sets of 5. For maximum standings gain, you will finish this guide for a total of 12 times overall (3 systems per empire * 4 empires in-game).

Save all your mission rewards. You will use some as turn-ins for the Business and Industry mission arcs.

Exploration (E) will have you using scanner probes. Do these first. You will be sent to retrieve various types of “Proof of Discovery” items. Once you finish each Exploration mission and are looting that mission’s specific Proof of Discovery item, you can loot as many as you want, simply by waiting a few seconds after every looting. If you plan to grind faction rep, loot one for each Exploration career agent you expect to work for. I looted 12, because I plan to eventually work for every empire’s Exploration career agent (4 empires * 3 Exploration agents each).

The first time around, you will have to do each mission and turn-in separately. But for every Exploration  agent after this, you’ll be able to Accept and Complete the whole mission arc (except E 2/6, see below*) without undocking, by turning in all the Proofs of Discovery you’ve already looted! For now, read and follow each mission description carefully. This 6-minute YouTube video tutorial on scanning will help you a lot.

Notes:

E 2/6: Jump through a series of acceleration gates every time.

Miltary (M) and Advanced Military (AM) will have you learning basic combat and electronic warfare modules. Do these next, simultaneously. For most of these, you can Accept both, undock, warp to each location and finish your objectives before returning to turn-in. Some missions will, however, prevent you from doing these simultaneously (AM 2/10 and AM 5/10, see below*).

M 1/10 and AM 1/10: Kill everything for both missions.

* AM 2/10: Use the special frigate provided by the mission, and fly into the enemy base. Do this first. You’re supposed to lose your ship. Redock, and you should be on M 2/10 and AM 3/10. Get back in your main ship (the one you used to travel here).

M 2/10 and AM 3/10: Fit the Civilian Warp Disruptor and use it for AM 3/10. Remember to loot the mission item for M 2/10.

M 3/10 and AM 4/10: Fit the Civilian Remote Shield Transporter and use it for AM 4/10. Remember to loot the mission item for M 3/10.

* AM 5/10: Use the special frigate provided by the mission, kill one pirate, then lose your ship. Do this first. You’re supposed to lose your ship.  Redock, and you should be on M 4/10 and AM 6/10. Get back in your main ship (the one you used to travel here).

M 4/10 and AM 6/10: Use afterburners to reach both mission objectives.

M 5/10 and AM 7/10: Fit the Civilian weapon and use it for AM 7/10. It also works for M 5/10 (just hit the pirate once to complete the objective).

M 6/10 and AM 8/10: Kill everything plus a pirate Outpost for M 6/10. Kill nothing for AM 8/10, wait for your fleet commander’s order, then loot the mission item

M 7/10 and AM 9/10: Fit the Civilian Stasis Webifier and use it for AM 9/10. Kill everything for M 7/10.

M 8/10 and AM 10/10: Fly to M 8/10 objective. Kill the Terrorist Leader for AM 10/10.

M 9/10: Kill the Narcotics Warehouse.

M 10/10: Kill the named pirate, possibly a few jumps away.

Industry (I) and Business (B)  involve mining, transporting goods, buying from the market, and in-station manufacturing using provided blueprints. For these missions, use a new frigate (one of the rewards from the previous 30 missions you just did). Pick one with a relatively large cargo bay, two high slots, and a drone bay. Fit it with two Miner I mining lasers, an afterburner, and fill the drone bay with drones. You’ll have to refit with different modules, but this will be your default fit.

I 1/10 and B 1/10: Courier and mining.

I 2/10: Refine the ore you mined from I 1/10.

I 3/10 and B 2/10: Start a manufacturing job for I 3/10. Fit the Civilian Salvager and use it for B 2/10. Remember to loot the mission item. Redock, finish the manufacturing job, and turn-in both missions.

I 4/10 and B 3/10: Mining and refining. Fit mining lasers. You need to fly to the mission areas anyway (ie. you can’t just buy ore/minerals from the market to Complete the mission), so mine some ore and kill pirates with your drones. Missions flag complete when you spend enough time at the mission waypoint. (Possibly only flags complete if you mine at the mission waypoint; I haven’t tested this.) Redock, refine, turn-in both.

B 4/10: Fit the Civilian Codebreaker and use it. Remember to loot the mission item.

I 5/10 and B 5/10: Courier. Remember to pick up the mission items from your hangar. If you’re lucky, both missions send you to the same drop-off location. If not, I would switch to my main frigate (the one I used to travel here) because it’s faster, and use autopilot for these two missions while I do stuff around the house. While you’re out of station, search the market for 1 x Tracking Computer I, and 20 x Cap Booster 25. You’ll need these next.

As of  December 2001 (Crucible), autopilot is smart enough to dock you at your destination.

I 6/10 and B 6/10: Accept and turn-in. (You bought a Tracking Computer I and Cap Booster 25s, right?)

B 7/10: Fit the Civilian Analyzer and use it for B 7/10. Remember to loot the mission item.

I 7/10 and B 8/10: Courier. Remember to pick up the mission items from your hangar. If you’re lucky, both missions send you to the same drop-off location. If not, I would switch to my main frigate (the one I used to travel here) because it’s faster, and use autopilot for these two missions while I do stuff around the house.

I 8/10: Manufacture the mission item. For manufacturing minerals, reprocess any of the junk modules you’ve been rewarded.

B 9/10: Accept and turn-in. (The mission requirements were rewarded to you previously.)

B 10/10: Accept, buy the mission items, and turn-in. (You could also manufacture the mission items, if you have the time.) By now, your manufacturing job for I 8/10 should be ready to turn-in.

I 9/10: Switch to your basic frigate (the one with mining lasers and drones). Mine some ore and kill pirates with your drones. Remember to loot the mission item.

I 10/10: Accept and turn-in. (The mission requirements were rewarded to you previously.)

CONGRATULATIONS! You now have a lot more standing with this empire and its ally, a hangar full of sellable items and ships, and a wallet full of mission rewards! At this point, I board my main frigate (the one I used to travel here), and pack up the Proofs of Discovery items that I got from Exploration (VERY IMPORTANT!), ammo, drones, and other goodies I want to keep. Everything else I repackage, reprocess, and/or sell at market price. Now your wallet is even fuller!
